The opportunity

Palette Skills (Palette) is a national not-for-profit that supports fast-growing companies to find the talent they need by upskilling and transitioning people whose jobs or industries are being disrupted. Since its launch two years ago, Palette has created two skilling programs: SalesCamp and the Accelerated Cyber Security Training Program. While these sectors are different from each other, Palette’s approach is the same: to train and connect individuals with the foundational skills to employers who are struggling to find in-demand talent. Palette’s approach has resulted in 96% of graduates from its inaugural SalesCamp program receiving a job offer upon program completion. Palette’s current team of nine will soon grow to a team of 15 with potentially much more growth on the horizon. It is within this context that Palette invites applications for its inaugural Human Resources Lead.

Reporting to the Director of Operations, the Human Resources Lead (HR Lead) will build and implement a full suite of human resources functions at Palette, including onboarding, performance and talent management, professional growth and work-place culture, compensation, benefits, leaves, employee communications, disputes, and disciplinary matters. The HR Lead will also manage Palette’s recruitment efforts including designing the hiring process, developing job descriptions alongside hiring managers, coordinating and conducting interviews, drafting offers of employment, and team-building activities and opportunities that increase morale and productivity of the team. This role will also act as the first point-of-contact on any employee concerns such as issues related to promotion, professional growth, physical or mental health issues, issues of harassment or work-place safety, work-life balance, and personal issues. The HR Lead will ensure Palette is at the forefront of human resources best practices and is a leader in supporting its team and ensuring a healthy work environment. The HR Lead will also ensure the organization complies with all governmental regulations pertaining to labour and human capital, and will revise policies and procedures to account for any changes in such regulations.

As the ideal candidate, you have developed and implemented leading practices in employee experience and HR regulation. To support the growth of Palette’s team, candidates should have experience recruiting and developing a high-functioning team. Colleagues describe you as collaborative, motivated, organized, results-driven, process oriented, with proven problem-solving skills and analytical ability. Candidates must be well-organized, diligent, strategic, and at ease with ambiguity that comes with an early-stage organization and lack of defined processes. To this end, candidates must have excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines and to prioritize conflicting deadlines. Candidates have a demonstrable track record of working with and supporting equity, diversity, and inclusion activities.
