The opportunity

Red River College serves its community with relevant, accessible, and high-quality programming supported by strong industry partnerships across all economic sectors. Innovative academic programs, including new micro-credentials, along with the College’s success in applied research, have contributed to RRC’s position as Manitoba’s polytechnic and one of the top research colleges in Western Canada. Home to 22,000 students, over 200 full and part-time degree, diploma and certificate options, expert faculty and researchers across eight campuses, a vast alumni network, and hundreds of industry and community partnerships, RRC is the largest institute of applied learning and research in Manitoba. Through hands-on learning opportunities, state-of-the-art instruction, and an atmosphere of accessibility and respect, RRC ensures students are prepared to meet changing industry demands, contribute to the province’s economic growth, and become leaders in their fields.  

It is within this context that RRC welcomes nominations and applications for the position of Executive Director, Academic. The position will be based out of the Notre Dame campus in Winnipeg, Manitoba, with travel to other RRC campuses as required.

Reporting to the Vice President, Academic and Research, the Executive Director, Academic (ED) is responsible for the delivery of all of RRC’s academic programs, including RRC’s continuing education and micro-credentials programming. As a key member of RRC’s Senior Leadership team, the ED is a member of both the Leadership Council and Senior Academic Committee. Through providing strategic direction, vision and operational management to RRC’s five academic schools, the ED inspires and supports academic excellence and innovation across the College. The ED also works to enhance student retention and completion, support new program models to attract domestic and international students, and increase Indigenous learner participation and success rates. The ED supports the financial sustainability of the College through the responsible management of financial and human resources, including union relationships and collective bargaining. Externally, the ED fosters productive relationships with various stakeholders including government officials, professional regulatory bodies, and Apprenticeship Manitoba. Additionally, the ED supports a culture of philanthropy across the College and with its alumni through donor engagement and stewardship. As the RRC community engages in the development of its next multi-year Strategic Plan, the ED will be a key participant in the implementation of this new plan in the Fall of 2021 to be followed by a new Academic Plan in early 2022.

As the ideal candidate, you are a successful post-secondary leader, with experience in academic administration, program and policy development, and with advancing quality assurance and innovation. In addition to your post-secondary degree, your experience has provided you with the knowledge of how to design and deliver academic programming to anticipate and meet industry and labour market needs, and with the skill of collecting and analyzing information to provide timely advice and decisions. You are passionate about and have advocated for equity, diversity and inclusion, and foster a collaborative, collegial and respectful work environment that nurtures and encourages excellence and engagement. You have successfully developed strong relationships with both internal stakeholders , and with external partners, such as government officials and regulatory associations. You have a high level of emotional intelligence, business and financial acumen, a strategic business sense fuelled by a keen entrepreneurial spirit, and a desire to support RRC’s short and long-term success through a student-centred approach.

The appointment of the Executive Director commences July 1, 2021, or shortly after. Consideration of candidates will begin immediately.
